Semester: Spring Intensive 2008
Dates: Saturday & Sunday, March 22 - March 30 (2 weekends)
Time: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Location: 141 W. 21st St., Rm. 214C

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Adobe Dreamweaver is a sophisticated Web editor that reduces the need for writing HTML code by creating basic HTML functions and JavaScript with its drag-and-drop features. Students will begin by exploring how to use Web-safe colors for creating banners and buttons and how to properly save images for Web use in Adobe Photoshop. Text editing, image insertion and manipulation, using tables, layout tables, layers, library items and uploading will all be covered. During the second weekend, we will address new functions to make an easily manageable and sophisticated site, including how to slice images in Photoshop for use in tables and how to make simple animated GIFs. Using templates, cascading style sheets (CSS), JavaScript behaviors, timelines and uploading with Dreamweaver's extensive FTP function will be included.
Prerequisite: SMC-1031, Digital Design Basics, or equivalent.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Students will learn the basics of the dreamweaver application through informative lectures, interactive demonstrations and hands-on exercises while using the most current versions of industry standard graphic and html authoring software. After completing this course, students will: be understand the tools and processes required to create a professional website using Adobe Dreamweaver with optimized images from Adobe Photoshop.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

Attendance: Because of the limited number of classes we will have together, it is imperative that you be here on time and ready to go. More than one absence will affect your grade negatively. During each class session, we will have a 15-minute break starting at approximately 1:00pm. Please be prompt in returning to class from breaks, on time and ready to continue with the class.

Assignments & Exercises  Our main goal for the course is to have a "smallish" completed website at the end of the course. To stay on track you will be given suggested assignments to keep pressing forward during the hands-on exercises. These assignments are provided to help you be successful in getting the most out of what we will learn in class.

Participation: In class, we will hold informative and constructive discussions on dreamweaver and html. You are encouraged to take part in discussions and ask questions at anytime.

ABSENCES:

If for some reason you will be absent, you are expected to send the instructor an email to document your absence. As documented in the student handbook, more than 2 absences from a continuing education course will result in an immediate F.

EVALUATION/GRADING:

All students will be given a letter grade at the conclusion of the semester. No pass/fail grades are given for continuing education courses.
